Switchroom packages for utilities

If you need a switchroom, such as a medium voltage switchgear kiosk, a primary collector station, SF6-free switchgear and/or power transformers up to 220kV, for your power distribution network, think of Brunstock.

Through one of our representatives, utilities can access our SF6-free primary switchgear, which is designed for medium voltage substations. Brunstock also distributes an SF6-free ring main unit (one of our two green secondary switchgear products) which can be installed in a compact kiosk.

Both types of switchgear allow power to reach the load centre with great flexibility.

Switchrooms are crucial for power utilities and the equipment they contain comprises an important part of any substation. Included in Brunstock’s line-up of switchrooms for utility substations are step-up transformer substations for solar farms, step-up transformer stations for BESS, SF6-free gas insulated switchgear (primary and secondary) medium voltage, power transformers and of course the switchroom enclosure itself.

Step-up transformer stations for utilities

Our step-up transformer substations are used by utility organisations at solar farms as they increase the voltage of electrical power generated on-site, enabling safe and reliable power transmission over long distances. This minimises energy losses and ensures a stable power supply to the electricity grid. By improving power transmission efficiency, these substations help reduce installation time, simplify maintenance requirements and lessen environmental impact.

Brunstock’s step-up transformer skid stations for energy storage facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, readying them for discharge into the grid. The principle of BESS is to store excess power generated during times of plenty and provide ongoing power supply when the renewable sources are not generating enough power to meet demand. In order to do that a step-up transformer converts the energy to right voltage which is an essential component of any BESS.

SF6-free switchgear for utilities

Most gas insulated switchgear (GIS) in operation today uses SF6 gas as the insulating medium inside the gas tank, which poses a risk to the environment, as SF6 is a potent greenhouse gas. When it escapes uncontrollably into the atmosphere it contributes to the greenhouse effect at a much higher multitude than carbon dioxide. As such, power utilities are taking up SF6-free secondary GIS and SF6-free primary GIS to ensure their community has the most safe, efficient and environmentally friendly energy set up possible. 

Electrical transformers for utilities

Electrical transformers are indispensable for utilities, converting the high-voltage electricity from step-up substations to lower voltages suitable for the power grid – households, industry and businesses. Electrical enclosures designed for utilities

Switchrooms include substation enclosures like kiosks and ehouses, which are metalclad free-standing buildings that contain indoor electrical equipment, such as switchgear, circuit breakers, power transformers, LV cabinets, protection relays and more. They can be installed in remote sites and can withsand a broad range of environmental situations, including heat, humidity, cold, dust, pollution, moisture, and pests. Switchrooms can be inside a building or outside, but ours are modular, turnkey solutions that are safe and reliable as well as quick to deploy.
