SF6-free RMUs | BGS-12
BGS-12 stands for Brunstock Gas insulated Secondary switchgear, rated up to 12kV. We have adopted vacuum switching and SF6-free sealing technology. The main circuit and high-voltage components are sealed in the gas tank, making it suitable for operation under harsh environmental conditions, such as dust, humidity, saline air and even at high altitude.
This ring main unit is just 450mm x 800mm, a compact footprint that makes it a flexible solution which can be widely applied. You will find it in all kinds of kiosks in renewable wind/solar farms, in utility applications, and in airports and railways.
Application
BGS-12 is one of our SF6-free gas insulated switchgear series, which paves the way for you to enjoy a cleaner, greener footprint in your power transformation, distribution, storage and utilisation projects.
Our product packages are designed for the renewables, utilities, infrastructure, oil and gas, and mining industries with power transformation and distribution solutions to suit their project timeframes and budgets. We focus on a variety of industries by using our deep understanding of power engineering and manufacturing to offer world-class renewable energy products.
Why choose dry air to insulate your switchgear
Better for the planet than SF6
Using dry air instead of SF6 (sulfur hexafluoride) in secondary switchgear offers several key benefits. Dry air is an environmentally friendly alternative because it is a natural and non-toxic gas with a significantly lower global warming potential compared to SF6, which has a much higher greenhouse effect. Additionally, dry air is less expensive and more readily available than SF6, making it a cost-effective choice for many applications. It also avoids the challenges associated with handling and disposing of SF6, which requires special protocols due to its high potency as a greenhouse gas.
In terms of performance, Brunstock’s dry air technology provides adequate insulation and arc extinguishing properties, thereby supporting the reliable and efficient operation of switchgear systems.
Better for your project budget
Using dry air instead of nitrogen (N2) in secondary switchgear can offer several distinct advantages. Firstly, dry air, being a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen, provides a more natural and stable insulating medium that can effectively support high-voltage applications while being less prone to issues related to partial discharge and dielectric breakdown compared to pure nitrogen.
Additionally, dry air is more readily available and often less expensive than pure nitrogen, which can lead to cost savings in terms of both procurement and system operation. Moreover, dry air, when properly conditioned to maintain low humidity, helps prevent the formation of condensation and corrosion within switchgear components, enhancing the overall reliability and lifespan of the Brunstock equipment.
Using dry air also avoids the need for the specialised handling and storage protocols required for high-purity nitrogen, simplifying maintenance and operational procedures.
