A new energy‑storage project led by NRG Solutions AG is taking shape in Central Switzerland, this time driven entirely by private investment. The operator’s goal is clear: create a site that can manage its own energy intelligently, reduce exposure to volatile electricity prices and prepare for a more dynamic energy landscape.

At the centre of the project is the Brunstock 5 MWh DC block designed to support a broad optimisation strategy. Rather than focusing on a single use case, the system will operate as a flexible asset that adapts to market signals and on‑site demand.

Using storage to unlock smarter site operation

The project focuses on four key functions that work together to stabilise costs and improve operational resilience:

• SDL marketing: Participating in regulated load‑management schemes to generate additional revenue.
• Self‑consumption optimisation: Making better use of on‑site renewable energy and reducing reliance on grid imports.
• Peak shaving: Smoothing high‑demand periods to avoid costly load spikes.
• Arbitrage: Charging when electricity is inexpensive and discharging when prices rise.
