Environmentally Friendly Gas

Ambitious climate requirements have been set by many countries in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, the Asia-Pacific region and elsewhere. A significant step towards this occurred because of the 2005 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the 2016 Paris Agreement, which was later built upon by the 2021 Glasgow Climate Pact.

Many nations have implemented measures to control greenhouse gas emissions, in an effort to keep global temperature rise within 2°C. In the power industry we can contribute to these efforts by reducing the use of SF6 as the insulating medium in gas-insulated switchgear.

Brunstock’s 12 and 40.5kV gas insulated secondary switchgear (GIS) contain dry air, which is an environmentally friendly gas that gives projects around the world a pathway to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly substation. Not only that, but it won’t blow your budget! Our dry air gas is derived from compressed air and this eliminates concerns about the greenhouse effect while offering effective insulation for the electrical equipment. Dry air is non-toxic and harmless, ensuring no safety hazards for maintenance personnel in case of gas leakage.

Brunstock’s green GIS is compact, which makes it easy for you to fit it into your project site, while allowing power asset protection and operational continuity during the transition to SF6-free.

Brunstock’s green GIS will save you money
Far from being a more expensive option, Brunstock’s green GIS products are competitive with SF6 insulated switchgear. Our representatives can meet most SF6 switchgear competitor pricing, if not better it!

During project inception you may not be thinking about the end of the substation’s lifecycle. The commonplace SF6 gas insulated switchgear requires treatment for disposal. The dry air used by Brunstock in BGS-12, BGS-24, BGS-40.5 and BGP-40.5 will not need additional treatment, saving costs and reducing the environmental impact of your project and site.

Brunstock switchgear is delivered in modules that fit inside standard shipping containers. This allows the switchgear to be transported to the end user’s site without additional gas treatment. There are costs to be saved and improvements to efficiency from such forward-thinking design. Furthermore, because Brunstock builds the switchgear in the step-up or collector station required, it is strong and well-constructed. Electrical buildings and rooms can be replaced or expanded easily.

Standards
Brunstock’s green switchgear complies with all the applicable electrical standards, including:

  • IEC 62271-100
