Optimising megawatt charging in Switzerland with Brunstock BESS technology
Switzerland is accelerating the shift to electric heavy transport, and reliable megawatt‑scale charging is becoming essential infrastructure. One of Brunstock’s Swiss representatives, NRG Solutions, is now delivering a project that shows how energy storage can strengthen high‑power charging hubs and reduce operating costs from day one.
Building a smarter megawatt charging hub
This NRG Solutions AG project centres on a new megawatt charging hub designed for electric trucks. Once complete, the site will host up to ten megawatt chargers, giving fleet operators the ability to charge vehicles quickly and keep logistics moving without interruption.
To support this level of power demand, the operator is integrating a Brunstock BESS. The system is engineered to optimise grid interaction, reduce peak loads and create a more predictable cost structure for high‑power charging.
Why energy storage matters for high‑power charging
Megawatt charging places significant stress on local grid connections. Without storage, operators face high demand charges, limited flexibility and potential constraints on expansion. The Brunstock BESS addresses these challenges through three core functions:
- Peak shaving: The BESS reduces grid peaks by supplying stored energy during high‑demand periods, lowering operational costs and easing pressure on the local network
- Load management: The system supports controlled load distribution across chargers, ensuring stable operation even when multiple trucks charge simultaneously
- Arbitrage: By storing energy when prices are low and discharging when prices rise, the operator gains a more efficient and predictable energy cost profile
A scalable model for future transport hubs
This project demonstrates how megawatt charging and energy storage work together to create resilient, cost‑effective infrastructure for electric transport. With NRG Solutions leading the local delivery and Brunstock providing the underlying technology, the model can be replicated across Europe as fleets transition to zero‑emission logistics.
Brunstock continues to support its representatives (subsidiaries and distribution partners) with modular, utility‑grade storage solutions designed for real‑world performance. As demand for high‑power charging grows, integrated BESS solutions will play a central role in enabling reliable, scalable electrification.
